Running on Purpose

Thanks for helping me raise funds for the Southern Crescent Sexual Assault and Child Advocacy Center! 

I started as a 'short-term' volunteer nearly 25 years ago with plans to just help out until the center was up and running.  I was first trained to answer calls through the crisis line and then started as a victim advocate, meeting with survivors at the hospital to support them through the process of the examination.  I was later asked to join the Board of Directors, was elected for two terms as the Board President, and I still serve on the Board today. 

In America, a sexual assault occurs every 98 seconds. Every 8 minutes, that victim is a child. Meanwhile, only 6 out of every 1,000 perpetrators will end up in prison. All programs and services provided by SCSAC-CAC are free to anyone who comes to us for assistance, so we rely very heavily on sponsorships and donations.  In 2018, SCSAC-CAC provided direct victim services to 3,274 individuals throughout South Metro Atlanta. Within our 15 county designated service area, we have four offices in Henry, Clayton, Coweta, and Baldwin counties. 

This organization serves so many communities and individuals with with much needed resources, and the people who make this their daily work are true blessings to each person who walks into one of our facilities.  As a parent, my heart breaks and my blood boils at the thought of innocent and defenseless children who are victims of such horrific acts of violence, though Elie and I will be running in honor of anyone who has survived sexual assault.
